Perfect timing... this STRIKING image appeared in my Deviantwatch box in the week leading up to Hallowe'en. A terrifying reminder of why I love this holiday. Dark nights, candle lights and flickering shadows... A time of celebrating the ghoulish and macabre, a time for welcoming witches and demons into our world... feeding them toffee apples and pumpkin pie! But this... this is otherworldly... a sinister reminder of the real demons that can play trick or treat with your mind and your sanity and twist and turn and torment you... make your head spin.
This is a STUNNING image. I cannot fault it. I have given full marks for all categories.
Vision: this image seems as if it has been hand-picked from a series of bad acid trips, or recurring nightmares from some horrific post traumatic stress sufferer... Very very sinister and more than just a little bit scary...... the manic and deranged look on the model's face is just perfect. To coax darkness from any model can be challenging, and this is sublime. A true venture into the subversive nature of us humans and our endless fascination with the human mind, and the macabre...
Originality: i have witnessed a big increase in the amount of images falling into the horror and macabre genre - must be the time of year... LOL never seen anything QUITE like this. the attention to detail to create is worthy of respect - from the shaven head, the decaying teeth and make up... amazing work on both the photographer and model's part - and if self-stylized then even more kudos.
Technique: awesome. i cannot fault it. the light - the composition, the pose, and the attention to detail. perfect distressed treatment in the post processing too. wonderful work.
Impact: grisly, gruesome, twisted, sick, haunting, horrific, shocking, brutal, ugly - yet brilliant! seeing this image full size was like an electric shock. i daren't look at the screen - those eyes follow you around the room - haunt you and scare seven colours of shit out of you... unforgettable and one of the best images i have seen in this genre ever.
Others take note - you don't need lashings of that ridiculous raspberry sauce shit and fake sutures to make an image horrific and excel in this genre... a twisted mind, and the demons that exist in broken minds is more terrifying and this seems, in my humble opinion, to epitomise this - and that scared the me more than anything i've seen this Hallowe'en...
This piece creeps me out all the way I can smell it. The smell is like roofing tar with a large dose of goose pimples bad dream. You win the ""it gives me the creeps'' award!!! Happy Now!
